Below are some tips and tricks you will need to follow to get your adult site up and running and making $$$.

Picking a name for your site

Probably, the most important reason for a domain name is because it is YOURS. If you decide to move your site from one host to the next (and chances are this will happen many times in the first few months alone because most new webmasters always seem to make the "cheap" mistake).

Anyway, lets say you host with some no-name cheap hosting company and find out we were right all along and you decide to move to another company. With your OWN domain name, you don't lose the traffic you worked so hard to get. So, long story short - pick your own domain name. Pick whatever you want - just pick something. You will appreciate this in the long run.

Oh and one more final note on this subject. Don't buy a domain name for more than $300 unless you plan on investing in real world advertising (ie newspaper, tv). Because truth is, an expensive domain name rarely seems to pay off.

There are always exceptions to this rule. A guy bought the domain name warez.com for a few thousand $$ and he made his money back in a few days and now continues to make huge bucks in advertising from that site.

The only good (pay for) domains are one word, .com names with less than 7 letters. ie: sex.com, pussy.com, sexy.com and so on. Not to say other domain names aren't good - they just aren't worth paying thousands of $$$'s for.

Why would you pay some thousands of dollars for a domain name like sample-domain-name.com. It's long, hard to remember and to put it bluntly - you are just throwing away good money.

Create Your Members Only Area
The type of members only area you have will determine the type of content you will need to add to it. The first thing you need to do is decide what type of site you want to have. There are basically two types of adult sites, those that charge a membership fee to enter their site and those that use an age verification service such as Validate or Age Check.

Create Your Preview Area / Sales Pages

Now that you have created your service you need to create your preview area. You need to think of your preview area as your sales brochure for your members only area -- which is why we created your members only area first. Because you have to know what you have, before you know what to advertise.

When creating your preview area/sales brochure remember these rules. Your preview area should be visually appealing, easy to navigate and load really fast and most importantly your sales brochure should only sale YOUR service. If you plan on creating a preview area with a ton of banners of other sites then you are wasting your time with me. You will not have a successful members site because you are to busy sending your traffic to other people so they can have a successful members site. Just give up now and make your site a free one. Serious membership sites do not promote other members sites in their preview and they don't do it because it seems like you are saying to your traffic "I appreciate you visiting my site, but my site sucks so bad I'm going to send you to someone else's".

Anyway, that's enough on that subject. If you are
serious about running a real site - read on. ;)

Rule #1: Never have banners or links to other sites in your preview area. You don't want to run the risk of losing a customer, before he first becomes a customer.

Rule #2: Make MANY links to your join page. The easier it is for them to get to your join page, the more likely they will be to join your site.

Rule #3: Be descriptive but don't lie! In other words, tell them as much as you can about your members area and make it sound so super great but don't make up stuff that just isn't true. If a customer comes inside of your site and finds out you did lie, they will LEAVE and never come back again and even worse, they will probably contact their credit card company and issue a chargeback for your membership fees.

Rule #4: If you run more than one site, link them together. Let site 1 advertise for site 2 and let site 2 advertise back for site 1. If they don't like your first site, perhaps they will ike your second site.

Finding a home for your new adult site

When it comes to finding a place to host your new site remember one thing ... you DO get what you pay for - so beware of claims that sound to good to be true. Because guess what - they probably are. Running an adult site is just like running any REAL business. Would someone just GIVE you a free office or what about those buildings that offer LOW/CHEAP RENT? What are they usually like? I think you get the idea.

When looking for an ADULT hosting company find out if they can handle HIGH TRAFFIC ... if so how much do they charge for excessive bandwidth and find out what they consider excessive? If they say they will give you some super great deal like 1 gig a day for $14.95 a month (that's like 30 gig a month) ... chances are you are going to get a BAD deal some how ... I can promise you it costs them MORE than what they are charging you so that means they will not be around for long.

I guess what I am trying to say is BE CAREFUL and shop around ... ask for references and don't take the first hosting company you find. If at all possible open a tiny account on their server and test it out before moving a super high traffic site there ... if they can't handle your small traffic site, I'm sure they couldn't handle a big one.

I know this option isn't always possible for people so the best advice is to find 30 people that host with them and then test their sites at various times of the day over a week or two. If their servers seem pretty stable to you then perhaps you found a good hosting company. But before you make your decision, chart out what you get for your money. Sure some companies charge a tiny bit more than others, but WHY is that? And don't be afraid to ask them.

Will they setup things like .HTACCESS for you?
Do they provide telephone and/or e-mail technical support FREE OF CHARGE. If you pay for something, shouldn't they be willing to back it up if there is a problem?
What other special features they offer ... like a secure server, a real video or special java web servers?
What are their rates for their standard monthly fee and then their bandwidth overage fees.
What sort of server stats do you get? If you can, get a hosting company that offers NetTracker. It is without a doubt THE BEST stats program I have ever seen and trust me when I say, I've seen a ton of them and none of them have ever came close to NetTracker.
If you setup an account with their web hosting company, what special FREE cgi programs do they give you? Many companies like InfoBoard and TriStarWeb give you a large array of free software just for signing up. Like at InfoBoard they give you 10 free CGI programs, and TriStarWeb I think gives you three or 4. These free CGI programs may not seem important to you now, but when your site grows, these CGI programs can really help. I know they personally saved me a ton of money when I first started my adult site.
Do they have a setup fee? If so, what is it? It really should not be more than one months hosting fee. For example if the company charges $150 per month for hosting, the setup fee should not be more than $150.
Do you get CGI bin Access - so if you do have special CGI programs written and trust me - you will ... can you run them with any additional fees and/or work involved?
Do they use NT or Unix? Unix offers more flexibility than NT. So if you plan on running a really cool site that needs a lot of great features then Unix is what you need.
How long does it take for you to setup your server, once you setup your account with them?

Advertising Your New Site

Advertising your site will be the most time consuming and costly feature of your new venture into the adult business. The first thing you need to do is create some banners for your site. You need to create atleast 4 of them that are the following sizes:

468x60
468x68
460x60

Another thing you need to do is register your site into all of the search engines. And if you are lucky and can afford to invest some money in advertising your new site then your job has just been made easier.

You can pay companies like the Hot Links Banner Exchange to advertise your site for you. Before you pay anyone to advertise your site for you though you need to ask them the following questions::

What will I get for my money? *How many impressions*
What is their site's average click through ratio?
How long will your advertising run?
Do they have atleast 3 references? Advertising is expensive and you don't want to make a mistake by not checking a company out first!

So just to summarize, you first created some banners. You then traded some links. Then you registered your site in some search engines. Then perhaps you paid a few people to advertise your site for you. Easy enough? Well it's not really that simple but this is enough information to get you started. ;)

Making Even MORE Money With Your Site

Now that you have done all of that, you should finally be up and running and even making money on sign ups but that isn't the only way to make money with your site! Once a person joins your site who's to say they won't give you even more of their money? I know of adult sites that make twice as much money with sponsorships than they do on their members and they ONLY advertise their products and services to their members!

One Final Note ...

#1 Don't pay people to submit your site to search engines. You can do it yourself, be just as productive (if not more) and save all the cash. Check out step 5 and the Marketing Tips section of this site.

#2 Don't waste your time advertising your site via spam. It will hurt you, yoursite and your livelihood beyond belief.

#3 Once you get your site created, be sure to spend extensive time in both the section of our site called "in your corner" and "marketing tips and advice". Both of these sections will save you much time and hassle.

#4 if you want to pay someone to design your site for you, stay away from Teletaria, Inc. ((they are a scam)) and expect to spend a minimum of $2500 when you do find someone reputable to create your site. But don't get me wrong, it's usually well worth it. (be sure to ask for references and examples of other sites they have designed - don't just take peoples word for it).

And don't let them have access to your server. Tell them to create the site, upload it to THEIR server so you can approve it and then send it to you on a ZIP disk. And be sure to give them atleast 4 other sites you have visited and like - so they have a good idea of what YOU are looking for.

Another good idea to save some money is to pay someone to just create the graphics. You design/layout the site and they do the hard part. It should save you atleast a few hundred bucks.
